Using urban development as a catalyst for the reclamation of valuable archaeological material, this proposal aims to create a centre for the analysis and archive of such objects as well as an educational institution for study in this field. The need for the building is propelled forward when assessing APA’s (Archaeological Protection Areas). These areas state the level of investigation required depending on the likelihood that there could be significant material to recover. When pairing APA’s with proposed building development plans across the London area, in almost every case there is need for substantial archaeological work. The developments around the Stratford and Hackney area are only the surface of the need for such a building; the London Plan and its infrastructure links nationally and to Europe will cement the need for the proposal due to the vast levels of archaeological work that will need to be undertaken.
