I’m Alice Baddeley, I am an ED2 student currently studying fashion and textiles at UCA. Previously I came from Sir Roger Manwoods’ school and studied Fine Art – especially dry point print. From my love of print, in my first year of UCA, I explored the idea of adding the element of stitch and fabric to my work, which encouraged me to join the fashion and textiles pathway In year 2.

For my final major project, I’ve been exploring how I can visually portray music and sound through printed textiles. During the project, I have been interested in exploring different mental processes people go through when they hear sounds or songs. This is called synesthesia. The visual response that people can see in their mind is endless, but the most common are colours patterns marks or even textures.

I have explored some of my favourite songs, one of which is ‘sleep forever’ by Portugal the Mann.  With my visual response, I ended up with a mixed media series of loungewear and bedding, made from screen printing, heat transfer, and machine embroidery.
