Theme

Having picked up her first camera aged 12, Catherine May has been continuously interested in taking photographs of everything and anything. Her practice brings forth stories and experiences (personal and otherwise) that allow her audience to begin to understand the topics she is interested in; stories that are happening every day in the world.

Her current body of work is ‘We are lucky to have Hannah’, a personal project based on her sister who has learning difficulties. May has always wanted to do a project like this with her family, as she believes families who have learning disabilities still do not get the recognition, help and understanding that they deserve from the outside world. The work marks the beginning of May’s future journey in working with this community, allowing them a safe space to express themselves.
