My name is Claire and I aim to question the main narrative of our heritage and how our education system feeds us the history that denies the experiences of those wronged and glorifies those who deemed themselves right.
Most of my projects this year have been surrounding the topic of colonialism and the current existence of the post-colonial thoughts that permeate western media. I like to experiment with a variety of media, however, I always seem to revert back to film. I admire how it grounds the viewer in an extremely real reality, asking them to examine the truths set before them. I also play a bit with soundscapes and how sound can be manipulated to heighten an experience and ground the film.
My need has always been to not just ask the question, whose story was this? But to ask, whose stories are these? And in turn remembering that history is not just the past, but a living breathing present in many people’s lives.
