For my Final Major Project I chose to explore the implications of Feng Shui in the world of design to see if pseudo-science has any positive impacts on design choices and results.
I began by researching the basis of Feng Shui to familiarise myself with the key rules of the practice as well as researching designers who use Feng Shui to evaluate what good and bad use looks like; I also noticed afterwards that a lot of the principles of Feng Shui collide with the 10 principles of good design by Dieter Rams.
The pictures shown are my digital plans in combination with my final piece which is an architectural scale model of a student accomodation apartment that has been fully optimised with Feng Shui.
I concluded that overall, on a small scale, westernised approach, Feng Shui has positive impacts on living standards only when utilised correctly; I did this through peer assessment and self reflection.
