After retiring from 40+ years working in a non-creative role and no formal training, I enrolled on the FE Access Course. I have always had an interest in different creative fields and the five pathways were a great way of trying different mediums and techniques. Fashion and Textiles fitted my interests, and I was open to new ideas and keen to learn new techniques to develop my own style.
My Final Major Project was titled London “Something Old Something New!” and was inspired by my experience of living and working in London. I wanted to highlight old London, it’s textile heritage and the extensive redevelopment currently taking place.
My final piece was made up of three panels which began as collaged design sheets. I used old and new images of London and introduced family photographs to give it a personal connection. The artwork was transferred to fabric using the sublimation printing process and one panel was quilted by hand whilst the other two were finished off using the free motion quilting technique.
