I decided to theme my Final Major Project, around the important message of conservation. Specifically, animal conservation, environmental conservation and marine conservation. I was instantly drawn to the idea of creating artwork around the theme of conservation and knew I could branch off into lots of different areas of interest.
To begin with, I decided to research the three main types of conservation: environmental conservation, marine conservation and animal conservation. This allowed me to learn much more about what conservation is about and how important it is to spread awareness of it and inspiring me to create artwork to communicate this message. My target audience for this project is mostly the younger generation as I think that it is important that people of all ages no matter how young should be aware of how to conserve our planet and help make valuable changes for generations to come.
As well as producing research on topics linking to conservation, I also delved into researching artists who have raised awareness for conservation through their artwork. To name a few; Olafur Eliasson, Naziha Mestaoui and Chris Jordan. I then became interested in learning more about the marketing and advertising side of visually communicating a message. This led to coming up with and creating my own conservation charity name and logo design. After obtaining a good understanding of the importance of conservation and the many effective ways of communicating this message, I decided to research conservation charities/campaigns to become aware of what was already being done about conservation in the world. Charities and campaigns such as Sanctuary Asia, WWF, Greenpeace, Sea Shepherd and National Geographic are making change and helping to keep conservation a relevant and important message globally.
At one point in my FMP, I produced research on how polluting the fashion and textiles industry is and it very quickly became an area of interest for me. For my final outcomes, I decided to create posters raising awareness about this important matter. When creating my artwork and final outcomes for this project I have explored different techniques. I’ve experimented and mixed techniques such as collage, watercolour, fine liner, digital media (Procreate) and bookbinding methods. I am very pleased with how my final outcomes turned out, and I like how professional they look with image and type paired with my final logo design outcome. Overall I am very content with how my FMP has been carried out. It allowed me to independently plan out and organise my own project which I very much enjoyed. It has been very beneficial in my development as an artist and as an innovative thinker.
