Theme

My final major project (titled; Queer themes throughout art history) I explored how queer identity had been expressed throughout art history, from ancient Greek pottery decoration to the stonewall movement of the late 20th century, and how it impacted the work of lgbtq+ artist in their time period. For example the work of Claude Cahun, non-binary surrealist photographer was a huge source of inspiration to my practice. I also aimed to highlight important queer activists that had been erased from history, such as Marsha P. Johnson. I hoped to use what I had learned to create artworks that both highlighted and honored the work of those who were often forgotten by history, because of discrimination.
