Director, producer of animated collage from my personal photographic archive exploring themes of memory and trauma.

Busted and Blue is a short experimental animation, using collage to explore abusive and violent relationships. Using my photographic archive that dates back to 2013 as the substance for the collage and a mix of Photoshop, AfterEffects and Premiere Pro to bring it to life.  The animation cut-up style is inspired by various artists that use collage such as David Hockney, Barbara Kruger and Linda Sterling linked to 90’s riot girl zines that express the rise of feminist iconography and the DIY cut and paste aesthetic. The story begins after the first violent altercations and follows through to the end of the relationship and the after-effects of domestic abuse.

Working on the film alone allowed me to not only improve my software, audio and research skills. It also allowed me to understand PTSD and offered me a form of closure.

Improving my software skills on various Adobe programmes allowed me to bring my creative vision to life in the early stages of my project and also helped to make me more employable in the creative field when I graduate. Working alone also gave me full creative control to share my story and discuss violent relationships on my own terms and in a comfortable and safe space. Using my photographic archive allowed me to explore my passion for photography and experimental film simultaneously and encouraged me to include a photography section on my website showcasing some of my favourite images. Displaying my photography on my website and in my portfolio is essential to my future aspiration to teach photography in a secondary school and also helped me acquire a job as an art and design teaching assistant when I graduate. My portfolio demonstrates my ability to use the Adobe suite to animate, edit and create audio successfully. It also exhibits my capability to research in-depth and apply that research to my outcome. I also chose to display my research pack as a zine to really convey my research and also my technical skills using Adobe software. I am interested in teaching and creative education and have already found employment as an Art and Design teaching assistant at Admiral Lord Nelson School in Portsmouth.
