Theme

This project was born from the Covid-19 Pandemic. Having lost an uncle to Covid-19 and gained a niece at the start of lockdown, I was fascinated by how my family were communicating exclusively through digital means and watching life happen through screens. It is an exploration into how we present ourselves online and navigate digital spaces. The work focuses on digital performance, avatars and communication. The full project is split into several chapters, exploring screens, mirrors, human relationships with technology and simulation theory, all of which are more relevant than ever in society when we are all communicating through screens. I have focused on creating spaces within our home that only exist within these photographs and when uploaded online will become exclusively digital spaces. The work was shot entirely in lockdown, at home in our dining room and my partner Aaron models in all photos with garments made by him. The overarching theme of the work is performance and being inside looking out.
