Hello! My name is Hannah and I am an illustrator based in Glasgow, Scotland. Since I started at UCA I have learned how to brush up on my traditional and digital media skills and learn more about the business side of the industry. My future goal is to be a children’s book illustrator and also have my own business selling prints.
I decided to illustrate one of my favourite cautionary tales “The Most Foolish Traveller in the World” written by Natsuki Takaya. I feel like this story is very important for kids to read and learn the difference between being kind to others and being kind to yourself. That is the reason I made it into a graphic novel, so children could find it easier to read and understand. Even though the themes in this story are dark, I wanted to make up for it by my exploration of colour and fantasy elements.
I work primarily with digital media because I feel that is where my strengths lie, but I did a lot of experimentation with traditional media such as watercolour, oil pastels and soft pastels and incorporated them into my pages. I hope this book will teach children and adults that you shouldn’t risk your own mental and physical well-being for the sake of making other people happy.
