“Our environment and its waste”

Throughout my foundation year, I have mainly focused on the concept of fast fashion and overconsumption of other materials such as plastic, as well as their impacts on our environment. My projects during pathway and FMP have all revolved around sustainability and spreading awareness of fast fashion consequences.  

Image 1: Digital illustrations, wearing clothes in as many ways as possible. This was part of a magazine project exposing the fast fashion industry.  

Image 2: Scrap thread use. As part of trying to be more sustainable in creating art, I found ways of upcycling the material so it didn’t go to waste. 

Images 3,4,5 – FMP outcome & photography. My focus for this was based on using plastic as it’s a hugely over consumed material that negatively impacts the planet. I designed and created a two-piece fashion garment out of plastic bags, using the technique of hand weaving. I also did a photoshoot including the garment. I concluded using a beach for the setting of the photoshoot. The weather played a huge factor in portraying the mood and style of the photography, although it wasn’t what I initially planned, I believe it actually worked to my advantage.
