For my final project, I wanted to combine everything that I’d learned from the past 2 years across 2D, 3D, and in-engine skill sets. I decided to create a project by myself that used the 3D and 2D game space that would allow me to practice creating 3D and 2D assets as well as performant code and gameplay systems. Since I was going to be creating everything myself I tried to keep the visual style of the project easy and quick to iterate on.
Using software such as Maya, Substance Painter, Photoshop, and Unity I was able to create a gameplay vertical slice called ‘Byte Size’. I faced a fair few challenges during development such as the implementation of a new audio system using Wwise; something I had to learn how to do in a short space of time when I collaborated on the audio with a UCA music student. But I’m glad I now have experience in new workflows that I can hopefully make use of in my future career.
Although there’s a lot I’d have liked to have done with Byte Size I did learn and develop a lot during this project; both as an artist and as a developer.
