Puppetry and Narrative

I chose puppetry (being a form to reflect humans) as a tool to explore dialogue and narrative. I was particularly interested in the interactions that we can create between our art and the audience. My explorations led me to create a personal dialogue with the puppet I was creating and this relationship led me to view it as something like an entity. Each interaction with the puppet led to a dialogue that equally created and convinced me of its presence. It ‘became’.

With the audience not experiencing the history and therefore the same presence, I looked at how my involvement and subsequent conviction and belief in the puppet could be conveyed/translated through me, the creator.

My final work shows my exploration of dialogue between myself and the puppet and the importance of my involvement and role as the creator in translating this sense of presence. I was interested in this theory that even though the audience may not see the same presence, they can still experience my conviction and interactions with it.
