Theme

My project, London’s Construction Baton focuses on the construction industry within Fish Island due to the recent construction of new builds alongside the gentrification due to the Olympic regeneration. The industrial heritage of the site and the loss of this architecture coinciding with the explosion of new builds within the area has caused local protest to keep these heritage sites. The recent effects of BREXIT within the industry and the wider issues within the UK construction industry have come to a point of needed intervention.

My programme, therefore, focuses on educating locals in the dying practice of traditional industrial building techniques. Whilst also widening the understanding of the industry to a wider audience through teaching and communication. And by doing so aiming to retain the vernacular industrial character of London’s urban fabric rather than the continued growth of faceless high rise developments.
