Year 2060 is an experimental short, The Republic of England has woken up to the morning news. As the world continues to spiral into destruction, a force outside the broadcasting station is trying to awaken the public to greater thought. Will, it still be possible for humanity to fix what is wrong, or will this message be erased once again? Year 2060 is an experimental analogue horror short film. Analogue horror tends to be described as When you’re watching TV alone when suddenly something out of the ordinary happens so you start wondering if anybody else witnessed what you just saw. It’s subliminal messaging when you’re watching TV alone when suddenly you get the sense that the broadcast is trying to send you a very clear message of impending doom, but it’s unknown to you if anybody else is also getting this message.
My skills include camera operation, producing, scriptwriting and editing. I’ve also become quite accustomed to set building and construction. I mainly use the Creative Cloud group of software for video editing. I’m very proficient in Premiere Pro and I’m quite accustomed to After Effects and Photoshop. I’m a quick planner and organizer, I would say that my organizational abilities and my forward-thinking are my best strengths.
During my time at university studying Film and Digital arts I have been exposed to many thoughts and ideas I had previously never interacted with. I’ve been introduced to and shown technology and philosophy which has changed the way I perceive the world around me and through these new interactions I treat the world around me along with my present actions with caution. I can’t predict the future but it’s always fun to speculate, well it’s more of a double-edged sword.
My journey as an artist is complicated, I’ve realised that I don’t really want to work in the creative industry but I still want to utilize my creative skills for the greater good. During my time here at UCA I’ve made work on politics, personal events and trauma and now with Year 2060 I am delving into speculative futuristic scenarios.
My dissertation was about internet culture and whether it is possible to capitalize on this new phenomenon. All of this has led me to realise I’d much prefer to delve into sociology; the internet and the technology that comes with it has become both humanities biggest asset but also its biggest deficit, I believe that in this current age we are not utilizing the internet and present-day technology to its fullest extent; we can solve so many problems yet as a society we choose not to. This has led me to apply for a masters in Digital Society at the University of Glasgow. I intend to use the knowledge I’ve gained here at UCA and see if I can apply it for a greater cause.
