Theme

For my final major project, my theme was based on constructed identity and how society can make people feel about how they look. I was very much drawn to identity because I wanted to see how you could reconstruct the face using layering, collage and even drawing on top of a self-portrait using photography. As I went further through my project, I could see that I was very much intrigued with the idea of layering with the left-over acetate sheets from the previous cyanotype experiments on top of a lightbox which then went further to being my final pieces.

My motivation to carry on with this project was the constant experimenting and dealing well with change, working with the materials I had in front of me and coping with my time management. It wasn’t my first thought to be using photography as I feel that I work more strongly in drawing. However, seeing how my project turned out, I definitely thought twice about it as I quite enjoyed the experience and felt more interested in photography and made huge improvements in it.

I still feel I would like to go further in Fine Art as that seems to be my passion, but having created new techniques, I can say nothing stops me from combining different styles for unique outcomes. For next year, I see myself continuing Fine Art because it is what I love and want to progress and try different styles. During this project, I found out that I can work well with materials and piecing things together to see what works and what doesn’t and creating new ideas.
