My work has certainly taken a 360 turn in the past year, as I have chosen to take a step away from tradition arts to create work fuelled by fashion and branding. This experience has motivated me to become a well-rounded designer and develop my graphics style and ultimately to forge a career within digital design. The aim throughout the course has been to create branding projects that create positive impacts, as graphics are more than skin deep and within design it is important we begin honest conversations. I aspire to create global campaigns that are impactful and positive, and I am discovering in which context I will recreate this vision.

Creating the brand Roses has been an eye-opening experience, it has been inspiring to see all the promotional elements and a full magazine for the brand come together. My aim for Roses was to create a lifestyle magazine that not only provides an enjoyable read for young adults, but that also provides a safe space for conversation about taboo subjects. By first creating an advertising campaign including merchandise for Roses and then creating a pop-up space for the brand, it meant that when it came to designing the magazine itself, I had a clear idea of the content I wanted to create. Specifically, I decided to focus the first issue on Self Love and its complicated relationship with mental health, as it is time for us to honestly discuss what it takes to love yourself and stop looking at self-love as the over-marketed ‘self love’ bath bombs. Mental health is a sensitive issue and by using raw, low lit photography, it intensified the idea of presenting your most honest self. The branding and pathway project was a unique opportunity to create a brand from start to finish and by using SketchUp, Photoshop and Figma it allowed me to create a professional brand.

With my Final Major Project, I wanted to build on the principles in my magazine project and create a second magazine for a new brand – Verde. Verde is a magazine that focuses on aiding sustainable consumption and encouraging young adults to shop in a more conscious way. The feature article focused on fast fashion and whether it could ever become sustainable. To coincide with this, I included pages on sustainable fashion and beauty brands that readers could swap to. I think encouragement and creating positive conversations about sustainability is vital and that is why this magazine is balanced in its approach to education and fashion trends. It is important that we encourage consumers to reflect on their choices and start making changes now. Consumers need to be the ones to push for change.
