Theme

This series of work was created and photographed by Lauren Jeffery, who named this collection of images “The Fruits of my Labour”. This project explored ideas around gender and sexuality through the playful use of aesthetic and performative still life fashion photography. Using fruits in a historical memento mori template to describe contemporary notions of sexuality that humorously challenge gender stereotypes and sexuality. Examples of artists who inspired research for this project include Irving Penn, Edward Weston, Maisie Cousins and Juan Sánchez Cotán.
