Theme

For my final piece, I was inspired by the quote ‘beauty is pain’ and decided I wanted to create something stereotypically female with a violent and graphic side to it.

The high heel, which I vacuum formed, represents an everyday symbol for women being ‘suffocated’ by society. In addition to that, the shards of plastic attached to it really emphasise the agony behind wearing high heels and trying to be seen as beautiful.

This was only part of my piece, I also created riot posters inspired by the Yorkshire Ripper murders (the murderer singled out and attacked women) to project onto my finished high heel to add depth and history behind the ‘beauty is pain’ quote.
