Micki Kahlon

I am a director, art director, producer and editor for both film and sound – working across a diverse range of lens-based media with a folio of photography and studio location film productions and music video. Earlier photographic works explored cultural identity and contesting Western ideals of female beauty.

Delirium is an experimental dance film expressing hallucinatory states and euphoria. The film explores the inner state of a female protagonist going through a series of expressive emotional experiences on the edge of addiction. The stylisation and choreography draw on painterly Expressionism. The film applies deep contrasts in lighting and colour to explore and manifest the psychic world of an addictive journey.

The film applies deep contrasts in lighting and colour to explore and manifest the psychic world of a young woman’s addictive journey into hallucinatory other worlds. The film emerged from my passionate interest in film drama and video editing. Scenes were shot in various locations and in the studio and dream-like montage sequences were developed in post-production applying various layers of VFX. The music audio was commissioned and directed to draw out subtle alterations in mood and emotional tone. Working under Covid conditions, the process involved a high level of organisational and self-management skills and commitment and focus to safely lead the production and creative crew and actor within the stringent Covid safety guidelines. In addition to my major film – I am an Avid Certificated experienced film editor and my folio also includes editing/co-editing credits on other graduate films: 

I have worked in numerous roles on other films. Importantly this includes work on the music video, Revival, working closely with the director and as part of a team in this film that incorporates experimental dance and a commissioned ballad for voice and electronic music performance. I am a highly motivated and skilled film editor with a keen eye for elegance and detail.
