I love to document my exploration of the world around me through my work. I am often drawn to using lots of beautiful, bright colours and handmade textures in my illustrations which can be seen again in my most recent project. As a British Caribbean illustrator, one of my aspirations for my work is to show diversity in different areas. This gave me the motivation to create a children’s picture book that can introduce children to a culture they may know little about. My intention for the project was to create an exciting world for the reader to get visually absorbed into, while learning about the Australian mountain, Uluru, and Aboriginal culture. I was very inspired by illustrators such as Haley Tippman and Katie Cottle because of their great use of colours and textures. I was also inspired by educational picture books such as Shackleton’s Journey by William Grill and Rocket Says Look Up, illustrated by Dapa Adeola. Throughout the process of making the book, I used Procreate to create the illustrations and Indesign to put everything together and format it.
