When it comes to photography, I have a very instinct driven style. I might create a loose outline in my head before starting my work, but the initial idea is to just pick up a camera and find moments that are worth capturing. This way I ensure that the process of image making is not forced.
Every image in this series has its own pathways, hence the title of the work. Some of them are quite literal and some of them are my own, personal interpretations. Additionally, these photographs are connected by their location. I long for water related landscapes and to me, open waters provide possibilities. A shore is something one can drift to and float away from. The furrows in the sand are channelling a fingerprint of nature, shaped by the water trickling down back to the sea. The landscapes show artificial structures leading the viewer to another location, while being aided by the coastline and horizon.
I wanted to do something different, something that is not as common anymore. Digital can seem a bit repetitive nowadays and unlike film, it does not allow participation in the working process, leading to somewhat cold perception of the media. Film photography challenges photographer’s creativity by going back to the basics. Working with analogue makes me as a photographer more connected to my work because I am present from the first shot to the last print in the darkroom. Each image is a unique piece that cannot be imitated and eventually they become precious to their creator.
