The three components of Country Boy Comes Home – the counterfeited material survival (seen bottom), the shop canopy (seen top), and the main painting made concurrently, influenced and allowed me to manifest the falsified narrative I wanted to depict. Working under the title ‘The Souvenir’ centralised the project whilst I attempted to contextualise the souvenir into the day-to-day, gaining an inward understanding of its significance and ability. The Souvenir subconsciously evolved into a largely autobiographical elusive series of paintings and drawings in which I address recent ineffable ill-health experiences in combination with fleeting pictorial childhood memories.
