Theme

Throughout my artwork, a common theme is the incorporation of nature. Nature always finds a way into my projects whilst constantly inspiring and influencing what I create. This was no exception for my Final Major Project.

Inspired by the jeweller Matilda Durant, I decided to produce a site-specific project where I would explore the location of Normans Bay, a beach near to me. It was here I gathered an array of findings that I would use throughout my project to inform my ideas, experiments, and development.

Using a selection of pebbles collected from my location, I underwent the process of biomorphic design which opened my eyes to the natural forms within Normans Bay. I quickly realised the abstract linear shapes I was left with after this process was something I wanted to continue working with. I enjoyed the fact the shapes were influenced by my location, but in a subtle and tasteful way. This turned out to be one of the most influential processes within my project.

Using materials such as wire and glass stringers, I explored producing different body adornment inspired by the forms taken from my biomorphic design process and found most success in the earrings I produced. Therefore, continuing to develop this design using glass bending techniques, through to my final outcome.
