“Don’t Touch My Hair”, is a short film exploring the portrayal of the connections the black community have with their hair. There are many bonds and ties we as the black community have that connects us with our hair and our heritage. In my film, I showcase these bonds and open the audience to a new understanding of what it means to be black. It may seem like hair to most but to us our hair can show you where we come from and what spiritual connections we take pride in. Our hair can showcase our creativity and our beauty, which we can use to express ourselves in many forms. So I wish to pose this question to the audience if your hair had so many meanings and purpose would it just be hair to you?
I direct, produce and film my own work, I also try shooting and modelling for my own work as I enjoy the idea of being a one-woman production team. I wish to take what I have learned over the years and put it into practice to work as either a content creator or freelance artist. I do not wish to be subjected to one form of art or skill, I enjoy all aspects of digital film. I will start by taking freelance jobs through the connections I have made with other artists over the years such as Lightwork Studios, Emeka and Dilemma Enterprise. I would also like to gain more experience in curation and creative directing helping with Emily Light’s magazine as her creative director. I intend to set up my own production company P.O.S.E and will work as a creative agent providing opportunities for others to develop and improve their craft.
