My deep passion for environmental conservation and fashion currently juxtapose each other. Therefore, throughout my time at UCA, I have constantly strived to propose marketing strategies to create a more sustainable fashion industry.
I am keen to explore other markets which could benefit from sustainable practices. I believe that the idea of sustainability can be transferred onto other forms of marketing beyond fashion, as any form of consumerism tends to counteract the efforts made by environmental schemes.
I would like to work with brands to pursue their economic goals, whilst sustaining the environment and social stability. It is especially important to adopt sustainable and ethical practices into a brands business model now, more than ever, as the upcoming generation of buyers are more aware and condemn businesses who pursue profit above ethics.
In both my first and second year of university, I had mainly focused on pitching environmentally sustainable proposals, and through primary research, I had conducted for my Final Major Project, I concluded that people tend to view sustainability as purely an environmental subject.
Therefore, I shifted my perspective and proposed a business idea to sustain the well-being of people, since the sustainable fashion market is already inundated with schemes encouraging environmental conservation.
My Final Major Project idea was born from my sentiment regarding the rise in Asian hate crimes. As a British-Filipino, the lack of support exhibited towards the Asian community is something that I and many victims have been upset by.
Therefore, I proposed Narrative, a sustainable womenswear brand aiming to support the Asian community by creating sustainably made graphic T-shirts, donating 50% of the profits to related charities, and collaborating with other Asian-owned businesses.
