Hi, I’m Saskia. I’m a 2D animator and digital artist who enjoys explosive, vibrant colour palettes, smooth and expressive character animation, and stories revolving around subjective experience and altered states of reality. My work is characterised by its attention to fine detail, intentionally ‘busy’ aesthetic, and visually striking sense of character and background design. I am also a passionate musician, with my love of classical clarinet often influencing my work.
My graduation film ‘Walls’ centres on a listless young woman who is pulled into a glittering blue paradise within the dull confines of her bedroom. As she becomes carried away with this new reality, we see her determinedly ignore her phone as she receives numerous and frequent texts from a mystery sender. However, her fantastical world crumbles when she finally looks at her phone.
As an artist, I love to combine the magical, pretty and whimsical with themes of horror, which perfectly suited the creation of ‘Walls’. With this film, I wished to explore concepts of loneliness, social anxiety and the dangers inherent to cutting oneself off from the wider world; themes that, due to the pandemic, hold more relevance now than ever.
