Sian Maple

Untitled: House is layered with narratives of personal trauma. The viewer moves through the rooms of the house questioning what has happened in these tiny environments and analysing the meaning in each floor. The sculpture is combined with Untitled: Book 1, which approaches personal narrative from a different direction. The sculpture and book force the audience to look at each floor and element in fine detail, due to the scale of the work, whilst also building a complex sense of narrative.

I explore personal narrative through sculptural and pictorial representation. Photography, sculptures, and books within the context of abandoned environments have been an ongoing component within my work, resulting in the themes of personal narrative, absence, time, and documentation.
