Thea is a photographer based in Jersey, Channel Islands. Her work centres on experimental portraiture exploring the relationship between the camera and the model, as well as landscape photography of historical sites and architecture. She focuses on texture, using post-production processes involving the physical manipulation of images to repair and cause destruction. Thea is also strongly interested in photographic theory and enjoys writing about photography as a medium through ontological inquiry.
Currently, Thea is working on a series of self-portraits exploring her own discomfort with being photographed. She has always experienced an unwillingness to be photographed and a lack of control in being represented by someone else. The project has focused on conquering this mentality and was partly motivated by COVID which made it incredibly difficult to shoot with models due to necessary social distancing requiring a more self-sufficient approach to portraiture.
