‘Celebrate Nature…’ is a project based on found the beauty from real life and imagination. Since late 2019, COVID-19 has came into our lives, changed all aspects of our daily lives. My own study and life has been changed as well. When I was in the UK in 2020, I worried about if I can’t go home, worried about daily necessities, panic about the unknown virus, and also nervous about the coming long distance flight back to China.
The nervousness and unsure about life gave me ideas about this projects, if I was so nervous about the environment, and the eager to go outside during isolation and self-quarantine, other people may feel the same. The old good times of traveling, getting close to nature with friends seem so far away, and personally I miss it a lot.
Hence I want to start my project from photographs and nature. Two methods are used in this project, photograph and hand-stitching. To show how pretty nature is to me, all colours I chose are bright colours, so to create a fake-real nature. By fake-real nature, I mean the nature sceneries, such as sky and flower lands are real in reality, however, the colours are not as bright and splendid as they are in the textile pieces. On the other hand, camera was use to take real nature views and they were used in the sewing pieces. From the first step I decided to nature view from photograph. I would like to create 10x10cm sewing pieces. Imaging people live in real nature environment as usual. I would like to recreate how people connect in nature without COVID-19 and face masks, so to remind everyone to protect the earth and human being ourselves.
